If you are a biker who loves to ride those long rides across the country, then
you know exactly how it is to make the trip without a radio! A stereo, speakers, and a motorcycle
amplifier are absolutely essential for several reasons.
First, they keep you entertained and alert as you drive.
Second, they can keep you abreast of things like weather updates and
traffic reports.
And third, a new motorcycle amplifier and stereo is just plain cool....for every
reason!
That is why bikers today hardly ever even leave the driveway without a stereo
system in place, and incidentally, it doesn’t even cost that much to do anymore!
But before you can blast those tunes from your two wheeled hot-rod, there are a couple of
things that you need. First, you are going to need a motorcycle amplifier, or amp for
short. This is obtained easily enough....you can buy it from your dealer (though this might be the most expensive
place), you can buy it from an aftermarket dealer who builds and/or sell these types of stereo amps, or you can
order it online.
How you decide to buy it is your choice, but make sure to consider how big it will need to be
before grabbing for your wallet! Most motorcycle amplifiers will be about 100 watts. This will probably get you by,
but in case you are worried about a lack of power, there are also 150 watt amps out there. We specifically discuss
the Pyle amp and Shark
amplifier options.
Or, if you have an extra quiet bike and swear that wattage won’t be a problem, go for a 50 watt
motorcycle amp. They are out there, and many people find them more than adequate.
You will also need a motorcycle stereo. A good radio/stereo is just as important as your
amplifier, but that is not all you need to look for. Will it allow you to plug an mp3 player into it? Will it only
pick up FM, or can you get AM if you desire? Can you modify levels on it and adjust the EQ? a stereo that is all
high end is pretty annoying, so make sure that you can adjust these things before you settle on the stereo of your
dreams.
Another thing you will need to make your motorcycle amp work its magic is a pair of speakers.
These speakers usually mount on the handle bars, oftentimes near the handlebar switch, but you can also get some
extra bass speakers if that is what you wish. Speakers can be finicky, so you might want to go with a brand that
you either like, trust, or at least one that you have heard of.
A motorcycle amplifier is a great addition to any bike or trike motorcycle, especially if you are going to be
spending a lot of time on the road in your textile
motorcycle jacket. A good stereo, amplifier, and speaker combination can get you where you want to go
sharp, informed, and ready to roll. When the scenery just doesn’t cut it, crank up some tunes to get you to that
next stop!
